Bun Kabab

Karachi's spicy street burger

Bun kabab is Karachi's iconic street burger: a spiced meat or lentil patty in a soft bun.

Served with an egg-dipped patty, sharp chutney and raw onions, it is a cheap, intensely flavoured snack of Pakistan's streets.

Ingredients

  • Minced beef400 g
  • Chickpea flour (besan)2 tbsp
  • Ginger-garlic & chillisome of each
  • Garam masala & cumin1 tsp each
  • Eggs2
  • Soft buns4
  • Mint chutney & onionto serve

Preparation

  1. Knead the mince with besan, ginger-garlic and spices.

  2. Form flat patties and cook through.

  3. Dip the patties in beaten egg and fry again.

  4. Slice the buns and spread with mint chutney.

  5. Tuck in patty, onions and chutney and serve.
