Ema Datshi

Bhutan's national dish of chilli and cheese

Ema datshi – “chilli and cheese” – is the national dish of Bhutan and on almost every table of the Himalayan kingdom. Here chilli is not a spice but a vegetable.

Large green chillies are cooked in a creamy sauce of melted cheese; the fiery dish is eaten with the country's typical red mountain rice.
