Steamed Nepali dumplings

Momo are filled dumplings that reached Nepal via Tibetan traders and are today the most loved street food of the Himalayan country.

A spiced filling of chicken, onion and coriander is wrapped in thin dough sheets, steamed and served with a fiery tomato-chilli sauce (achar).

Ingredients

  • Wheat flour250 g
  • Minced chicken300 g
  • Onion & spring onionsome of each
  • Ginger-garlic paste1 tbsp
  • Cumin, turmeric, coriandersome of each
  • Tomatoes & chilli (for achar)for the sauce
  • Sesame & oilfor the sauce

Preparation

  1. Knead flour with water into a smooth dough, let rest.

  2. Mix the chicken with onion, ginger-garlic and spices.

  3. Roll the dough thin, fill and shape into purses.

  4. Steam for 10 minutes.

  5. Blend tomatoes with chilli and sesame into achar, serve alongside.
