Paneer Tikka

Marinated fresh cheese off the grill

Paneer tikka is the vegetarian version of the famed tikka and a star on every North Indian starter menu. Paneer is a firm Indian fresh cheese.

Paneer cubes and peppers are marinated in spiced yoghurt and grilled in a tandoor or oven until lightly charred outside and tender within.

Ingredients

  • Paneer, cubed400 g
  • Yoghurt150 g
  • Pepper & onion1 each
  • Ginger-garlic paste1 tbsp
  • Garam masala, turmeric, chilli powder1 tsp each
  • Lemon juice1 tbsp
  • Chaat masala (to sprinkle)some

Preparation

  1. Mix yoghurt with ginger-garlic, spices and lemon juice.

  2. Marinate paneer, pepper and onion in it for at least 30 min.

  3. Thread onto skewers.

  4. Cook in a hot oven or grill until lightly charred all round.

  5. Sprinkle with chaat masala and serve with mint chutney.
