Aji Furai

Breaded and fried horse mackerel

Aji furai belongs to Japanese yoshoku cuisine and consists of butterflied horse mackerel breaded in panko and fried golden brown.

Crisp outside and juicy inside, it is traditionally served with tonkatsu sauce and finely shredded cabbage.

Ingredients

  • Horse mackerel (aji)4
  • Panko breadcrumbs100 g
  • Egg & floursome of each
  • White cabbage200 g
  • Tonkatsu sauceto taste
  • Oil for fryingenough

Preparation

  1. Fillet the mackerel and butterfly them open.

  2. Coat in flour, egg and panko.

  3. Heat the oil to 175 degrees.

  4. Fry the fish golden and crisp.

  5. Serve with cabbage and tonkatsu sauce.
