Cylindrical sticky rice cake from the south

Banh tet is the southern Vietnamese counterpart to the square banh chung and is made for the Tet new year.

Sticky rice, mung beans and pork belly are wrapped into a log and boiled for hours.

Ingredients

  • Sticky rice500 g
  • Peeled mung beans200 g
  • Pork belly300 g
  • Banana leavesseveral
  • Salt & peppersome of each
  • Kitchen twineas needed

Preparation

  1. Soak the sticky rice and mung beans overnight.

  2. Season the pork belly with salt and pepper.

  3. Wrap rice, beans and meat in banana leaves into a log.

  4. Tie firmly with twine.

  5. Boil in water for six to eight hours.
