Fresh steamed rice sheets

Banh uot are paper-thin, freshly steamed rice sheets popularly eaten for breakfast in Vietnam.

They are served with fried shallots, herbs and nuoc cham, often with grilled pork.

Ingredients

  • Rice flour200 g
  • Tapioca starch50 g
  • Grilled pork200 g
  • Fried shallots3 tbsp
  • Fresh herbs1 bunch
  • Nuoc chamto taste

Preparation

  1. Stir rice flour and tapioca starch with water into a thin batter.

  2. Pour the batter thinly onto a cloth over steam.

  3. Steam briefly until the sheet sets.

  4. Lift off carefully and fold loosely.

  5. Serve with pork, shallots and nuoc cham.
