Dhaka's spiced beef rice dish

Beef tehari is a popular rice dish from Dhaka in which marinated beef is cooked with rice in mustard oil and spices.

Unlike biryani, tehari is herby-green and more meat-forward, a street and festive classic of Bangladesh.

Ingredients

  • Beef600 g
  • Basmati rice400 g
  • Yoghurt & mustard oilsome of each
  • Onion & ginger-garlicsome of each
  • Green chili & garam masalasome of each
  • Potatoes & coriandersome of each

Preparation

  1. Marinate the beef in yoghurt and spices.

  2. Braise tender in mustard oil with onion.

  3. Add soaked rice and broth.

  4. Cook with potatoes and green chilies until the rice is fluffy.

  5. Finish with garam masala and coriander.
