Stir-fried rice cakes from Shanghai

Chao nian gao are sliced rice cakes stir-fried in Shanghai with pork, bok choy and soy sauce.

The chewy rice slices soak up the savoury sauce - a warming everyday dish, especially eaten around the New Year.

Ingredients

  • Rice cake slices (nian gao)400 g
  • Pork (in strips)200 g
  • Bok choy200 g
  • Soy sauce (light & dark)1 tbsp each
  • Spring onion2 stalks
  • Ginger1 piece

Preparation

  1. Briefly soak the rice cake slices in hot water.

  2. Sear the pork with ginger over high heat.

  3. Add the bok choy and stir-fry.

  4. Add rice cakes and soy sauces, toss.

  5. Serve scattered with spring onion.
