Spiced potato sandwich from Kutch

Dabeli is a street dish from the Kutch region of Gujarat, a kind of sweet-spicy potato sandwich in a pav bun.

The spiced potato filling is topped with chutneys, pomegranate seeds, peanuts and crisp sev.

  • Pav buns4 pieces
  • Potatoes400 g
  • Dabeli masala2 tbsp
  • Tamarind-date chutney3 tbsp
  • Pomegranate seeds & peanutssome of each
  • Sev & coriandersome of each

Preparation

  1. Mash the potatoes and season with dabeli masala.

  2. Mix with chutney into a spiced filling.

  3. Cut open the pav and spread with chutney.

  4. Add filling, top with pomegranate and peanuts.

  5. Toast in butter, scatter sev, serve.
