Lentil fritters in spiced yogurt

Dahi vada are soft lentil fritters bathing in a thick, spiced yogurt, beloved all across India.

With tamarind and mint chutney and roasted cumin they turn into a refreshing treat.

Ingredients

  • Urad dal (skinned)200 g
  • Yogurt500 g
  • Tamarind & mint chutneysome of each
  • Roasted cumin1 tsp
  • Chili powder & saltsome of each
  • Oil for fryingenough

Preparation

  1. Soak the urad dal and grind fine.

  2. Shape the batter into fritters and fry golden.

  3. Soak the fritters in warm water and squeeze out.

  4. Whisk the yogurt smooth and pour over the fritters.

  5. Serve with chutneys, cumin and chili.
