Dal Tadka

Yellow lentils with a spice tempering

Dal tadka is a North Indian classic of yellow lentils finished with an aromatic spice tempering.

Cumin, garlic and chili fried in ghee are poured over the lentils at the end.

Ingredients

  • Yellow lentils (toor or moong dal)250 g
  • Turmeric1 tsp
  • Ghee3 tbsp
  • Cumin & garlicsome of each
  • Dried chilies2
  • Tomato & coriandersome of each

Preparation

  1. Cook the lentils soft with turmeric.

  2. Season with salt and stir creamy.

  3. Heat the ghee.

  4. Fry cumin, garlic and chili in it.

  5. Pour the tempering over the lentils and serve with coriander.
