Breaded fried prawns

Ebi furai are panko-breaded, deep-fried king prawns, a classic of Japanese Western-style yoshoku cuisine.

They are fried straightened out and served with tonkatsu sauce or tartare, often as part of a bento.

Ingredients

  • Large prawns8 pieces
  • Panko100 g
  • Egg & floursome of each
  • Tonkatsu sauceto serve
  • Cabbage (finely sliced)150 g
  • Lemon1 piece

Preparation

  1. Peel the prawns and score the underside so they stay straight.

  2. Bread in flour, egg and panko.

  3. Deep-fry golden in hot oil.

  4. Arrange on finely sliced cabbage.

  5. Serve with tonkatsu sauce and lemon.
