Braised beef brisket with tomatoes

Fanqie niunan is a Cantonese braise of tender beef brisket and tomatoes.

Cooked long, the brisket turns meltingly tender and the sauce sweet and tangy from the broken-down tomatoes.

Ingredients

  • Beef brisket700 g
  • Tomatoes500 g
  • Ginger & star anisesome of each
  • Soy sauce3 tbsp
  • Sugar1 tbsp
  • Spring onion2

Preparation

  1. Cube the brisket and blanch.

  2. Start with ginger, star anise and soy sauce.

  3. Braise soft for a long time.

  4. Add tomatoes and let them break down.

  5. Season with sugar and serve with spring onion.
