Halwa Puri

Pakistani weekend breakfast

Halwa puri is a lavish weekend breakfast from Pakistan that pairs sweet semolina halwa with fried puri bread.

Spiced chickpea curry (chana) joins them, bringing sweet and savoury together on one plate.

Ingredients

  • Semolina150 g
  • Sugar & gheesome of each
  • Wheat flour (for puri)250 g
  • Chickpeas200 g
  • Cardamom & saffronsome of each
  • Oil for fryingplenty

Preparation

  1. Roast semolina in ghee, cook with sugar syrup and cardamom into halwa.

  2. Knead a firm dough for puri and let it rest.

  3. Simmer cooked chickpeas spiced into chana.

  4. Fry puri discs in hot oil so they puff.

  5. Serve halwa, puri and chana together.
