Bhutanese spicy chicken stew

Jasha maru is a Bhutanese chicken stew with plenty of ginger, garlic, tomato and chili in a thin, spicy broth.

The hearty dish is traditionally served with red rice and reflects Bhutan's love of chili.

Ingredients

  • Chicken (on the bone)600 g
  • Tomatoes2 pieces
  • Ginger & garlicsome of each
  • Green chilies4 pieces
  • Onion & coriandersome of each
  • Oil & saltsome of each

Preparation

  1. Fry onion, ginger and garlic.

  2. Add the chicken and brown all over.

  3. Stir in tomatoes and chilies.

  4. Simmer with water into a thin broth until the chicken is done.

  5. Serve scattered with coriander and red rice.
