Green herbal porridge from Sri Lanka

Kola kanda is a green Sri Lankan rice porridge made with the juice of medicinal leaves and coconut milk.

A nourishing breakfast, it is regarded as part of the island's ayurvedic tradition.

Ingredients

  • Red rice100 g
  • Green herb leaves (gotu kola)1 bunch
  • Coconut milk200 ml
  • Garlic1 clove
  • Cumin1 tsp
  • Saltsome

Preparation

  1. Cook the red rice soft.

  2. Blend the herb leaves with water into a green juice and strain.

  3. Puree the rice with the herb juice.

  4. Stir in coconut milk and spices.

  5. Warm briefly and drink warm.
