Lor Mee

Noodles in thick, savoury gravy

Lor mee are thick yellow noodles in a silky, dark gravy spiced with five-spice and thickened with starch - a specialty of the Hokkien community.

Topped with pork, egg and fish cake, it is finished with garlic, chili and a splash of vinegar to taste.

Ingredients

  • Thick yellow noodles300 g
  • Pork belly250 g
  • Five-spice powder1 tsp
  • Dark soy sauce2 tbsp
  • Cornstarch2 tbsp
  • Eggs & garlicsome of each

Preparation

  1. Braise the pork belly with five-spice and soy sauce.

  2. Thicken the broth with starch into a thick gravy.

  3. Cook the noodles and put into bowls.

  4. Pour over the gravy.

  5. Top with pork, egg and garlic, serve with vinegar.
