Mild Kerala fish curry in coconut milk

Meen moilee is a mild, golden fish curry from Kerala that bears witness to the meeting of local and Portuguese cooking.

Fish is gently poached in coconut milk with turmeric, ginger and curry leaves, finished with a squeeze of lime.

  • Firm fish fillet500 g
  • Coconut milk400 ml
  • Onion & gingersome of each
  • Turmeric & green chilisome of each
  • Curry leaves & mustard seedssome of each
  • Lime & tomatosome of each

Preparation

  1. Temper mustard seeds and curry leaves in oil.

  2. Sweat onion, ginger and chili until soft.

  3. Add turmeric and thin coconut milk.

  4. Add the fish and let it poach gently.

  5. Add thick coconut milk and lime, serve with rice.
