Shrimp paste chili dip with fried fish

Nam prik kapi is a central Thai chili dip based on fermented shrimp paste.

It is classically served with fried mackerel, raw and steamed vegetables.

  • Shrimp paste (kapi)2 tbsp
  • Thai chilies6
  • Garlic4 cloves
  • Lime & palm sugarsome of each
  • Fried mackerel1
  • Raw & steamed vegetablesto serve

Preparation

  1. Pound chilies and garlic in a mortar.

  2. Add the shrimp paste and pound further.

  3. Season with lime and palm sugar.

  4. Fry the mackerel.

  5. Serve the dip with fish and vegetables.
