Festive ghee rice from Malaysia

Nasi minyak is a rich Malaysian festive rice fried in ghee with whole spices.

It is served at weddings and celebrations and enriched with raisins and fried onions.

Ingredients

  • Basmati rice400 g
  • Ghee3 tbsp
  • Cinnamon, cardamom & clovessome of each
  • Ginger & garlicsome of each
  • Raisins2 tbsp
  • Fried onionsto garnish

Preparation

  1. Fry whole spices in ghee.

  2. Add ginger and garlic.

  3. Toast the rice briefly.

  4. Pour in water and let steam.

  5. Serve with raisins and fried onions.
