Nikuman

Japanese steamed meat bun

Nikuman is a fluffy steamed bun with a savoury pork filling, derived from the Chinese baozi.

In Japan it is a popular winter snack, sold from heated cases at convenience-store counters.

Ingredients

  • Wheat flour300 g
  • Ground pork250 g
  • Yeast & sugarsome of each
  • Shiitake & spring onionsome of each
  • Soy sauce & sesame oilsome of each
  • Gingersome

Preparation

  1. Knead a yeast dough and let it rise.

  2. Mix pork with shiitake, ginger and soy sauce into a filling.

  3. Portion the dough and press into discs.

  4. Add the filling and seal into pouches.

  5. Steam about 12 minutes and serve warm.
