Indonesian potato fritters

Perkedel are Indonesian fritters of mashed potato, the name tracing back to the Dutch frikadel.

Seasoned with fried shallots, celery and nutmeg, they are served as a side to soups and rice dishes.

Ingredients

  • Potatoes500 g
  • Shallots3 pieces
  • Celery & spring onionsome of each
  • Nutmeg & peppersome of each
  • Egg1 piece
  • Oil for fryingplenty

Preparation

  1. Fry or boil the potatoes and mash them.

  2. Mix in fried shallots, celery and spices.

  3. Form small fritters.

  4. Dip in egg.

  5. Fry golden and drain.
