Steamed Filipino rice cakes

Puto are small steamed rice cakes, a Filipino side dish and sweet treat at once.

They are often served with savoury dishes like dinuguan or enjoyed with cheese as a snack.

Ingredients

  • Rice flour200 g
  • Sugar120 g
  • Coconut milk or milk250 ml
  • Baking powder1 tsp
  • Salt1 pinch

Preparation

  1. Mix rice flour, sugar and baking powder.

  2. Stir with milk into a smooth batter.

  3. Fill oiled moulds.

  4. Steam for about 15 minutes.

  5. Let cool and release.
