Purple sticky rice from bamboo tubes

Puto bumbong is a purple Filipino sticky rice steamed in bamboo tubes at Christmas time.

Served with butter, grated coconut and muscovado sugar, it belongs to the festivities of Advent.

Ingredients

  • Purple sticky rice (pirurutong)300 g
  • White sticky rice100 g
  • Grated coconut100 g
  • Muscovado sugar80 g
  • Buttersome
  • Bamboo tubesas needed

Preparation

  1. Soak the sticky rice and grind coarsely.

  2. Fill into narrow bamboo tubes.

  3. Steam until the rice is set.

  4. Carefully push out of the tubes.

  5. Serve with butter, coconut and muscovado.
