Rasam
South Indian tamarind-pepper soup
Rasam is a thin, spiced South Indian soup of tamarind, tomato, pepper and cumin, often enriched with a little dal.
It is considered soothing for a cold and is poured over rice or sipped as a warming soup.

Ingredients
- Tamarind paste1 tbsp
- Tomato2 pieces
- Black pepper & cumin1 tsp each
- Rasam powder1 tbsp
- Garlic & curry leavessome of each
- Coriander & asafoetidasome of each

Preparation
Dissolve the tamarind in water.
Cook down the tomato with rasam powder.
Add the tamarind water and only heat, do not boil.
Temper pepper-cumin and garlic in ghee.
Stir in the tempering, serve with coriander.
