Taco Rice

Okinawa's taco-and-rice fusion

Taco rice arose in 1980s Okinawa, influenced by the US military bases there and the Mexican taco filling.

Seasoned ground beef is served over rice instead of in a tortilla and topped with lettuce, tomato and cheese.

Ingredients

  • Ground beef300 g
  • Cooked rice400 g
  • Taco seasoning2 tbsp
  • Lettuce & tomatosome of each
  • Grated cheese100 g
  • Salsaas desired

Preparation

  1. Fry the ground beef crumbly with taco seasoning.

  2. Divide rice into bowls.

  3. Spoon the beef over the rice.

  4. Top with lettuce, tomato and cheese.

  5. Drizzle with salsa and serve.
