Tibetan twisted steamed bun

Tingmo is a fluffy, twisted steamed bun from Tibetan cuisine, common in Nepal's Himalayan communities.

The plain yeast bun is served as a side to spicy stews and curries, into which it is dipped.

Ingredients

  • Wheat flour300 g
  • Yeast1 tsp
  • Sugar1 tbsp
  • Warm water160 ml
  • Oil1 tbsp
  • Salt1 pinch

Preparation

  1. Knead flour, yeast, sugar and water into a dough, let rise.

  2. Roll the dough thin and brush with oil.

  3. Roll up and cut into strips.

  4. Twist each strip into a knot shape.

  5. Steam about 15 minutes and serve warm.
