Warming Javanese ginger drink

Wedang jahe is a hot Javanese ginger drink simmered with palm sugar and sometimes lemongrass.

It is especially enjoyed on cool evenings and considered soothing for the throat and digestion.

Ingredients

  • Fresh ginger60 g
  • Palm sugar3 tbsp
  • Water500 ml
  • Lemongrass1 stalk
  • Pandan leaf1

Preparation

  1. Bruise the ginger and slice it.

  2. Bring to a boil with water, lemongrass and pandan.

  3. Dissolve the palm sugar.

  4. Let it steep for a few minutes.

  5. Serve hot in cups.
