Grilled rice triangles with soy glaze

Yaki onigiri are grilled rice balls whose outside is brushed with soy sauce and toasted crisp.

The simple, savoury snack gains a golden crust and nutty aroma from the toasting.

Ingredients

  • Cooked sushi rice500 g
  • Soy sauce2 tbsp
  • Mirin1 tbsp
  • Sesame oil1 tsp
  • Sesame & norisome of each
  • Salt1 pinch

Preparation

  1. Press warm rice firmly into triangles.

  2. Mix soy sauce with mirin and sesame oil.

  3. Toast the rice triangles in a pan or on the grill.

  4. Brush several times with the soy glaze.

  5. Fry crisp, serve with sesame and nori.
